Fig. 1. Phylogenetic analysis of baculovirus MMPs. (A) Phylogenetic relationships amongst baculovirus MMPs, insect MMPs, and hydra MMP. A rooted neighbor-joining tree was built using MEGA6 with 1000 bootstrap replicates. Numbers at SBE 13 HCl nodes represent bootstrap scores. The tree was generated using aligned sequences of putative baculovirus MMPs and MMP sequences from Drosophila melanogaster (Dm), Tribolium castaneum (Trib), Anopheles gambiae (Ag), Manduca sexta (Mand) and Bombyx mori (Bm). A Hydra vulgaris MMP was used as the outgroup. (B) Alignment of MMP catalytic domain in putative baculovirus MMPs, D. melanogaster (Dm) MMP-1, and human MMP-3 (NP_002413.1). Baculovirus MMPs have a conserved zinc-binding motif (HEXGHXXGXXHS/T) and a Met-turn sequence within their catalytic domain, as indicated below the sequences. Shading indicates conserved amino acids. Virus full names and remaining MMP accession numbers are parenchyma listed in “Materials and methods” section.Figure optionsDownload full-size imageDownload high-quality image (662 K)Download as PowerPoint slide
