The stable isotopic composition of Zn (δ66Zn) has been used to trace the sources of metal pollution in aqueous systems (e.g., Wiederhold, 2015). Generally, anthropogenic Zn BET bromodomain inhibitor isotopically lighter than natural Zn sources (e.g., Thapalia et al., 2015). The δ66Zn of most anthropogenic Zn ranges from −1.0 to +0.15‰+0.15‰ ( Cloquet et al., 2006, Gioia et al., 2008, Sonke et al., 2008, Chen et al., 2009 and Mattielli et al., 2009; Thapalia et al., 2010 and Thapalia et al., 2015). In contrast, the bursae δ66Zn of geologic sources ranges from +0.2 to +1.3‰+1.3‰, but averages around +0.35‰+0.35‰ ( Marèchal et al., 1999 and Marèchal et al., 2000; Luck et al., 1999 and Wilkinson et al., 2005; Cloquet et al., 2006 and Cloquet et al., 2007; Chen et al., 2008 and Chen et al., 2009; Juillot et al., 2011, Bigalke et al., 2012, Dong et al., 2013, Matthies et al., 2014a, Little et al., 2014a and Thapalia et al., 2015).
