2. Redox states of the magmas: constraints from zircon trace elements
Zircon is resistant to hydrothermal alteration and surficial weathering than most other rock-forming Granzyme B Inhibitor Z-AAD-CH2Cl and hence can be used as not only Granzyme B Inhibitor Z-AAD-CH2Cl an ideal geochronometer as given above but also a good recorder of oxygen fugacity (e.g., Ballard et al., 2002, Chelle-Michou et al., 2014, Liang et al., 2006 and Qiu et al., 2013). Commonly zircon displays a positive Ce anomaly since Ce4 + has the same charge and similar size to Zr4 + and is several orders of magnitude more compatible than Ce3 + (e.g., Hoskin and Schaltegger, 2003). It has been proved experimentally by Trail et al., 2011 and Trail et al., 2012 and Burnham and Berry (2012) that magmas with higher oxygen fugacity are characterized by higher Ce anomaly. As such, the oxidation state of magmas can be roughly qualitatively estimated by the Ce anomaly in zircons.
