Previous petrological investigations dealing with the origin of the main granitoid rock types of the batholith put into evidence the difficulty to elaborate reliable models accounting for all the exhibited petrological features (e.g., Rottura et al., 1990 and Rottura et al., 1991) and stopped in the mid nineties, when the last papers on the subject (Del Moro et al., 1994 and Fornelli et al., 1994) were published.
This examination of the Serre Batholith geochemical message, based on published and newly acquired data, is meant to serve as a new starting point for characterizing and investigating this ADX 10059 significant example of granitoid magmatism in a unified and updated framework, removing ambiguities derived from past classifications and providing new insights on the mechanisms responsible for the compositional diversity of the granitoid rocks.
